How to Find Books in a Series in Eckhart Library

Finding Books in a Series

Search the On-Line Catalog.

Books in a series may be cataloged in two ways: 1) as a serial where all volumes have the same call number or 2) as individual books where each volume has a unique call number.

Since it is difficult to know how a particular series is cataloged, you should search for it in several ways.

  1. Search for the series title like you would for a journal.
  2. If you do not find the series title treated as a journal and you know the author and/or title of the book, search as you would for a book.
  3. If you do not find the series title treated as a journal and you know ONLY the series title and volume number, search as follows:
    • Search the On-Line Catalog.
    • Choose the "Series Keyword" search. Search by series title keywords AND volume number. For example, to search for v.1100 of Lecture notes in mathematics, type: lecture mathematics 1100. This will bring up the record for the individual volume.
    • If initially unsuccessful, ask for assistance from library staff.
