Work Schedule: 29.5 hours/week, 1:30 pm to 7 pm Monday through Thursday, Saturday 9 am to 5 pm and other shifts as assigned
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under general direction and following departmental guidelines, performs a broad range of task to include making Chicago Cards; issuing day passes; setting CNet IDs; selling CTA passes; inspecting and monitoring lockers for violations of Library rental policies; and overseeing the locker rental database. Performs duties of Library Assistant and Library Clerk positions. Performs work in accordance with ITS & Library standards and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Previous library experience or an equivalent combination of position-related experience and education (required)
• Ability to interact and communicate with clarity, tact, and courtesy with patrons, Library staff and others (required)
• Ability to work with confidential information and records with discretion (required)
• Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software with an ability to use or learn a range of position-related applications, including library systems (required)
• Ability to recognize, assess, and troubleshoot or refer customer problems related to their Chicago Cards, email access, and CNet privileges (required)
• Significant customer service experience in handling public contacts with patience, courtesy, firmness, and diplomacy within a fast-paced retail, library or similar environment (required)
• Ability to read and interpret documents and instructions pertaining to enforceable policies and procedures (required)
• Ability to articulate policies to users, to enforce these policies, to make appropriate exceptions when allowed, and to refer problems to supervisor when necessary (required)
• Attention to detail and the ability to perform multiple tasks accurately and simultaneously (required)
• Ability to respond quickly to potentially volatile security situations (required)
• Ability to maintain a regular schedule with willingness to work additional or flexible hours to provide coverage for other employees (required)
• Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to work independently (required)
• Significant experience in cash-handling and balancing a daily cash drawer strongly preferred
• Working knowledge of the University of Chicago a plus
MENTAL DEMANDS:
At times, working while office is very busy or denying access to guests not eligible to use collections.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Some light carrying and moving, use of the computer, mobility to physically inspect lockers.
