Title: Library Facilities Manager
Division: Administrative Services, Library Facilities
Reports to: Director for Budget & Facilities
This position is responsible for managing and overseeing a range of functions relating to the Library's buildings and building systems, and to its furnishings and equipment. Primary responsibility is for the Joseph Regenstein Library (584,886 gross square feet), the University's central library for the humanities and social sciences; the John Crerar Library (160,800 gross square feet), the University's central library for the physical and biological sciences; and the Joe + Rika Mansueto Library (58,699 gross square feet with a basement measuring 1,130,400 cubic feet), which houses the Library's high-density storage and retrieval system, preservation & conservation labs, and reading room.
Secondary responsibility is for four additional Library locations on campus (D'Angelo Law, Eckhart, Harper Storage, and SSA). The position encompasses a strong element of project planning and management, providing close and effective day-to-day construction oversight of Library capital projects.
This position works with Library administration to understand the programmatic needs of space and services and to ensure that Library Facilities Service's staff members work in support of these needs and priorities.
Works with Library Administration on facilities planning including forecasting facilities needs and proposing projects for capital budget funding.
Provides project coordination: planning, implementation oversight, problem resolution for building, renovation and remodeling projects; major furniture or equipment installations, and infrastructure improvements.
Liaison with University Facilities Services on matters concerning:
Oversight of Library Building Services unit, which is responsible for maintaining the automated retrieval system, compact shelving units, meeting and special events setups, Library signage, equipment assembly and installation, repairs to furniture and equipment, etc.
Furnishings, equipment, durable goods (not including computers but including many computer peripherals)
Maintenance of building keys and door locks, building alarm systems, and automated security and building access system, liaison with University Police on matters pertaining to building security
Oversight of Library Shipping and Receiving unit, which is responsible for processing all incoming and outgoing U.S. and interdepartmental mail, messenger service within Regenstein Library, daily messenger service to on campus libraries, scheduled pickups and deliveries throughout the Chicago metropolitan area.
Oversight of Library Project Planner, who is responsible for working with the facilities manager on the planning and management of special projects for Library facilities.
Ability to lift and carry weights up to 60 lbs. Ability to climb a ladder up to 50 ft. high.
