Note: This is a full-time temporary position which is not benefits eligible. The duration of employment will not exceed 6 months.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the monographic orders supervisors and closely following departmental guidelines and procedures, performs a range of routine library processes. Acquisitions Assistants are responsible for ordering monographic material for the Regenstein library and all satellites except for the law library, covering a wide range of subjects in a variety of languages including Russian and Hebrew. Additional responsibilities include processing a large number of volumes acquired from sources outside the department, maintaining vendor correspondence, and reporting statistics.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must demonstrate the following competencies: manage interpersonal relationships and interact/communicate with clarity, tact and courtesy with patrons, patients, staff, faculty, students and others; communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing; identify priorities; recognize and resolve or refer problems; work effectively with supervision and as a part of a team; use or learn a range of position-related software applications; significant position-related experience or an equivalent combination of position-related experience and education required; knowledge of library procedures and classifications required; knowledge of related data processing procedures and operations required; reading knowledge of at least one Western European foreign language preferred; experience searching in various bibliographic databases preferred; ability to work independently, sustain close attention to detail over long stretches of time, interpret complex instructions, recognize and act in accordance with departmental priorities, and exercise discretion in the execution of all duties required; ability to interact in a professional manner with co-workers and supervisors required; must be able to sit for long periods, must be able to visually focus on print material for long periods; must be able to lift 25 pounds and push/pull library carts.  

MENTAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to work independently, sustain close attention to detail over long stretches of time, interpret complex instructions, recognize and act in accordance with departmental priorities, and exercise discretion in the execution of all duties.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to sit for long periods, must be able to visually focus on print material for long periods.
