Title: Director of Library Human Resources
Division: Library Administrative Services
Reports to: Library Director
Work Schedule: 37.5 hours a week Monday-Friday
Reporting to the University Librarian, serves as a strategic partner with Library management. In this role, the Director will lead a human resources program that aids in fulfillment of the Library's mission.
The Director supervises the Library Human Resources department, including the HR Specialist and the Staff and Organization Development Librarian. The Director provides oversight of all Library HR functions, including recruitment, organization development and training, compensation, payroll, orientation, personnel changes, employee/labor relations, policy interpretation, performance management, and participation in the development of the personnel budget. Ensures compliance with University HR and Provost Office standards as well as all relevant employment law, and represents the Library in all labor and employee relations matters.
The Director partners with Library administration and management to develop programs and processes that further the Library's mission, vision, and values. The Director participates in the Library's strategic planning process by planning, monitoring, and reporting on staffing needs, and by taking a leadership role in assessing recruitment efforts, compensation strategies, organization development programs, and employee relations. In collaboration with departmental staff and the Director for Budget and Facilities, the Director sets policies, creates strategic plans, establishes and maintains goals, priorities and programs for administrative services that are consistent with the University Library's mission and strategic plan.
The Director works collaboratively with the Staff and Organization Development Librarian to assess organization development and training programs that ensure organizational excellence. The Director works with HR staff to design, develop and direct the Library's diversity initiatives.
In addition the Director represents Library human resource needs to the Provost Office, the University Human Resource Office, and other University administrative units; participates in University and library system-wide initiatives, committees, and task forces; represents the University of Chicago Library at professional conferences and meetings, and maintains professional networks and collaborative relationships with other libraries; remains informed of changes affecting Library human resources and assumes an active leadership and advocacy role within the field.
