The Continental Congress Broadside Collection includes materials relating to the work of Congress, dating from 1774 to 1788. Most items consist of a single sheet and provide a significant supplement to the Journals of the Continental Congress.
Journals of the Continental Congress
http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/amlaw/lwjc.html
The First Continental Congress met from September 5 to October 26, 1774. The Second Continental Congress ran from May 10, 1775 to March 2, 1789. The Journals are the records of the daily proceedings kept by the office of its secretary, Charles Thomson. The Journals were printed contemporaneously; however the "Secret Journals", confidential sections of the records, were not printed until 1821. They are included here.

Executive Orders
Until the Federal Register Act of 1935, the Department of State was the official repository of executive orders. Two series of executive orders exists, one a numbered series covering (roughly) 1862 to the present, and the other an unnumbered series starting in 1789. Many orders from the later period never were numbered and are consequently included in the unnumbered series.
The Federal Register Act of 1935 required filing of executive orders with the Office of the Federal Register and provided for the publication of all orders of general applicability in the Federal Register. From 1935 to the present, executive orders may be found by consulting the annual volumes of Title 3 of the Code of Federal Regulations, online at http://heinonline.org.proxy.uchicago.edu/HOL/Index?collection=presidents, or the Federal Register. There are two guides for finding executive orders from years prior to 1935:
The unnumbered series: List and Index of Presidential Executive Orders: Unnumbered Series (1789-1941) Online at http://heinonline.org.proxy.uchicago.edu/HOL/Index?collection=presidents
The numbered series: Presidential Executive Orders: Numbered Series (1862-1938) Online at http://heinonline.org.proxy.uchicago.edu/HOL/Index?index=presidents/peo&collection=presidents

Most states have websites with government information. The amount of information available varies, especially in the area of historical information. Any internet search engine will locate the states' official websites. Look for a URL with a string that includes the state's two-letter abbreviation followed by ".us", e.g. http://www.legislature.state.al.us/index.html or the state's name followed by the .gov domain, e.g. www.michigan.gov.
