ProQuest Digital Dissertations has abstracts of more than 1.2 million theses and dissertations submitted since 1861, including dissertations and theses from the University of Chicago. Dissertations published since 1997 are available in PDF format. Law students may also search the abstracts on Westlaw (database DAO).

The most comprehensive bibliography of law school JSD dissertations and LL.M. theses is the Index to law school theses and dissertations, by Sanford R. Silverburg. CD-ROM, updated annually, published by W.S. Hein. D'Angelo Law Reference.

EconLit indexes dissertations in the field of Economics. America: History and Life and Historical Abstracts index dissertations in history.

Getting Copies of Dissertations

Many recent dissertations can be downloaded from ProQuest Digital Dissertations free of charge. Dissertations not available from PQDD can can sometimes be borrowed through interlibrary loan, or you may order a copy at a discounted price.
