Ethernet Network Connections
There are Ethernet jacks on all floors and in the stacks in
Crerar and Regenstein and in the north reading room of Harper
Library. In Regenstein, the active ethernet jacks are labeled and
are usually orange.
Set up: Windows XP
- Start your computer while it is connected to an active Ethernet
jack.
- Select Start > Settings > Control Panel > Network and
Dial-Up Connections.
- Right-click Local Area Connection, and left-click
Properties.
- Select the Networking tab.
- Double-click TCP/IP.
- Verify that Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS
server address automatically are selected.
If TCP/IP is not installed. . .
Click Install, then select Protocol.
Choose TCP/IP, then follow the on-screen directions.
You will be prompted to authenticate by logging in using your
CNetID and password. If, after configuring your laptop, you do not
get prompted for your CNetID, try connecting
here.
Set up: Mac OS 10
- StFrom the Apple Menu (upper left corner of the Mac desktop),
select System Preferences.
- Under Internet & Network, click Network.
- Click on the TCP/IP tab if it is not already selected. Within
the TCP/IP box:
- From the Location drop-down menu, select Automatic.
- From the Show drop-down menu, select Built-in Ethernet.
- Click on the TCP/IP tab if it is not already selected. Within
the TCP/IP box:
- From the Configure drop-down menu, select Using DHCP.
- In the Search Domains field, enter uchicago.edu
- Click Save to save the settings.
You will be prompted to authenticate by logging in using your
CNetID and password. If, after configuring your laptop, you do not
get prompted for your CNetID, try connecting
