There are two photocopy machines in the D'Angelo Law Library: (1) in the Reserve Collections Room on the second floor, and (2) in the computer lab on the third floor. Both photocopiers accept coins, Chicago Cards, and copy cards. For information on copying in other campus libraries, see the Library's Copying and Printing guide.
The University of Chicago Library contracts for copier services with Copico, a division of MacGray. Copy-related inquiries and problems may be brought directly to the Circulation Desk on the second floor. Copico may also be contacted by telephone at 834-0038. Comments about the vendor may be conveyed by sending email to copies@lib.uchicago.edu
Please note that Library staff cannot resolve copy problems. No Library department can add paper or toner, or repair public machines.
Photocopiers: Both copiers are Toshiba e-studio 35 digital copiers. The copier features include the following:
Microform Reader/Printers: There is a Canon MS400 microform reader/printer located on the fourth floor. Please see the Circulation Desk attendant for access.
Networked Print Stations: There is a networked print station in the Wilson Reading Room on the second floor. You may send print jobs from any of the library workstations to the networked print station. Law students should use the printers located in the computer lab on the third floor.
Card Vending Machines: There is a vending machine in the Reserve Collections Room, where you can add value to your Chicago card and/or purchase a Copico vended card. To purchase a Copico vended card, insert $1 into the indicated slot, and a card will be dispensed automatically. A one-time charge of $0.30 will be deducted for the cost of the card at the time of initial purchase. There is a University limit of $50 that may be encoded on either type of card. The Copico-Vended Card is reusable. Do not throw it away when the encoded value is exhausted. Do not forget to sign the back of your Copico-Vended Card.
Photocopies: The cost per copy (8 1/2 x 11) is $0.15 with cash and $0.12 with a Chicago Card or a Copico-vended card. Two-sided (duplexed) copies are charged as two copies. You can pay for your copies by using cash or a magnetic card (Chicago Card or Copico-vended card).
Microform Prints: $0.15 with a Chicago card or a Copico vended card. The microform reader/printer does not accept coins.
Networked Prints: $0.10 for black and white prints. The networked print station does not accept coins.
Chicago Card: Copies and/or networked prints can be made using the cash stripe on your Chicago Card. Insert your card, with your picture facing up and the top of the card to the left, in the card acceptor slot. The value available on the card will be displayed and the copier/printer activated. Each time a copy is made the value on the card will be reduced by the appropriate amount. When you are finished copying, press the card return button and remove your card. If your card is not returned, call 4-0038 or contact the Library Office, Regenstein Room 180.
Copico-vended Card: Insert the Copico Card into the card acceptor slot, magnetic stripe down, using the arrows on the card as a guide. The value available on the card will be displayed and the copier activated. Each time a copy is made the value on the card will be reduced by the appropriate amount. When you are finished copying, press the card return button and remove your card. If your card is not returned, call 4-0038 or contact the Library Office, Regenstein Room 180.
Refunds and Lost, Stolen, or Defective Cards: Refunds will be made for illegible copies caused by copier malfunctions, defective Copico-Vended Cards, and cash lost attempting to make copies. Call 4-0038 or contact the Library Office, Regenstein Room 180. Defective Chicago Cards must be taken to the Identification and Privileges Office, Regenstein, 1st floor.
Chicago Cards lost or stolen in the Library should be reported immediately to the nearest Circulation Desk and to the Chicago Card Office. If you lose your Copico Vended Copy Card within the Library, it may be turned in at the Circulation Desk. However, Library staff can only return signed Copico-Vended Cards. No refunds are made for lost or stolen cards.
