Reciprocal Borrowing Agreement with Northwestern

The Library has entered into a reciprocal on-site access and borrowing agreement with Northwestern University Library, scheduled to take effect this Winter Quarter. Faculty, currently registered students, and benefits-eligible staff with library privileges at Chicago are eligible to apply for this privilege, which entitles the holder to access and borrowing privileges at all libraries on Northwestern's Evanston campus (including the United Library of the Garrett and Seabury Theological Seminaries) and the Schaffner Library on Northwestern's Chicago campus. The agreement does not presently include the Northwestern Law and Medical Libraries. In addition, the access and borrowing arrangements do not apply to children , spouses, or domestic partners of faculty or authorized borrowers.

With this agreement, which was approved by the Board of the Library, the University of Chicago community will gain substantially improved access to the resources at Northwestern University Libraries. Chicago faculty, students, and staff will enjoy on-site, open-stack access to the rich collections at Northwestern, including the Hershkovits Library of African Studies, the Twentieth Century Music Collection, and the Transportation Collection. The agreement will also increase the availability of non-unique materials as well, making accessible a greater number of copies of more heavily-used titles.

Specifics on this program, including instructions on how to apply for a Northwestern borrowing card, are available on the Library website. On the Library's home page, look under Hours, Access, Due Dates, Services. The direct URL is http://www.lib.uchicago.edu/e/using/access/nwu.html.
