Regenstein Library HVAC Upgrade Project
Over the last four or five years, University Facilities Services has been engaged in a multi-year effort to rehabilitate the Regenstein's heating, ventilating and air condition ing systems. Prior to this year, Facilities Services renovated almost all of the building's 11 air handlers (excluding those supplying Special Collections, which were redesigned and newly built and newly installed this year). Supply fans, fan motors, isolation springs, and motor mounts were replaced; new heating and cooling coils were installed.
The current project being overseen by University Facilities Services is focused on improving air distribution through the building and also on redoing the system's controls. The project will replace all of the building's constant volume mixing boxes with variable air volume mixing boxes, add direct digital controls, and replace all ceilings. In addition, the ducts will be cleaned, and all of the flexible duct work will be replaced.
Ceiling tile removal began May 22 and was completed in mid-June. New tiles will be installed in late Winter 2007, following the installation of a fire suppression system. A detailed project schedule is available here.
At this time, University Facilities Services estimates that the work will continue through part of Winter quarter. Upon completion, users will experience a notable improvement in air flow and air temperatures throughout the building.
