| Abstract: | The Association of Pasadena Scientists was founded late in 1945 as a response to the growing controversy over the use of atomic energy. Membership in the organization was open to scientists, graduate students, and technicians in the Pasadena area. The main purpose of the group was "to meet the increasingly apparent responsibility of scientists in promoting the welfare of mankind and the achievement of a stable world peace." The records of the Association of Pasadena Scientists cover the period 1945 to 1946 and include press releases, statements and correspondence of members of the Association. |

The Association of Pasadena Scientists was founded late in 1945 as a response to the growing controversy over the use of atomic energy. Membership in the organization was open to scientists, graduate students, and technicians in the Pasadena area, and was composed mainly of persons on the staff of the California Institute of Technology, and a few graduate students. The main purpose of the group was "to meet the increasingly apparent responsibility of scientists in promoting the welfare of mankind and the achievement of a stable world peace." The Association also wished to insure the existence of a spirit of free inquiry especially with regard to atomic energy, and also to assure the free flow of accurate information to the public.
The records of the Association of Pasadena Scientists cover the period 1945 to 1946 and include press releases, statements and correspondence of members of the Association. Some correspondence of interested individuals outside the Association is included. The bulk of the material consists of papers and memos generated by the internal workings of the group. The Association was affiliated with the Federation of American Scientists.
