David Auburn (1969- ) is an American playwright and screenwriter. The collection consists of a a script for Auburn’s play adaptation of the Saul Bellow novel, "The Adventures of Augie March."

Biographical Note

David Auburn is an American playwright and screenwriter. Born in 1969 in Chicago, Auburn’s family eventually settled in Arkansas. After he received his B.A. in English from the University of Chicago in 1991, Auburn then enrolled in the playwriting program at Julliard. He began his career in New York theater in 1997 with the play "Skyscraper." Auburn’s best known work, "Proof," is set in Chicago and centers around a fictional mathematician at the University of Chicago. For "Proof," Auburn won the Tony Award for Best Play and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2001. He adapted "Proof" into a 2005 feature film. He is additionally the author of the play "The Columnist" and the screenwriter for the film "The Lake House."

Scope Note

The collection consists of a a script for Auburn’s play adaptation of the Saul Bellow novel, "The Adventures of Augie March." The script was used for a run through in March 2018, ahead of the play’s engagement at the Court Theater in the spring of 2019.
