Abstract:

Radzia Niewiarowski, student. Niewiarowski was a University of Chicago graduate in 1921. She was imprisoned in a Nazi camp at Liebenau during the German occupation of Poland in World War II. The collection consists of a typescript of her experiences during this time.

Biographical Note

Radzia Niewiarowski was born on November 28, 1899 in Chicago. She received her B.A. from the University of Chicago on March 25, 1921. Shortly thereafter she traveled to Poland, and in 1925 married a Polish army officer. In the Nazi occupation of 1939, Niewiarowski’s husband was captured and sent to an officer’s camp where he remained until February of 1945. Niewiarowski was never reunited with her husband. In September of 1942 she herself was arrested and taken to a camp in Liebenau. She was released in 1945 and returned to the United States. She returned to Poland in 1957, and later moved to Belgium. She was in her 90s living in California when she died.
