Reserving Class Space

In Autumn 2003 a fully renovated, technology-friendly seminar room opened in Special Collections designed to allow instructors an opportunity to conduct hands-on, in-depth use of the collections with their students in a classroom setting. Featuring document cameras, plasma screen displays, and easy connection to laptops and to the World Wide Web, the Marie Louise Rosenthal Seminar Room allows instructors to exploit the resources available in Special Collections while making use of resources made possible with today's technology. In addition to the Seminar Room, instructors are welcome to use the Manuscript Search Room, the Group Study, or the large John Crerar Room for teaching.

The Seminar Room can be reserved for individual sessions, or, if a class will be making use of Special Collections materials throughout the quarter, for the entire quarter.

It is best to reserve Special Collections' teaching space at least one-week in advance. To make arrangements for your class visit please stop by the Special Collections Research Center or send a message to specialcollections@lib.uchicago.edu.

A note for preparing for class:
The basic guidelines that apply to the Special Collections Reading Room also apply to the Seminar Room. Your students will need to check their coats and bags, sign in at the front desk, and use pencils (we have an ample supply). Students are welcome to take notebooks, secondary sources, and laptop computers into the classroom, but food and beverages are not allowed.
