Teaching at the Center You are welcome to teach using Special Collections with only minimal staff involvement. We will provide you with the materials and space that you need and leave you to your teaching. If, on the other hand, you would like to have a member of the Special Collections staff speak to your class, we can arrange for anything from a ten-minute introduction to a full class session. Several librarians on staff have extensive teaching experience and are more than happy to provide general or specific introductions to the collections. In the past, we have taught class sessions devoted to our holdings in a specific subject area, led sessions devoted to the process of conducting archival research with an emphasis on the intellectual issues facing the novice historian, and provided general overviews of the history of printing in a given time period. The librarians on staff can also help you locate materials in Special Collections to support your teaching. We have extensive knowledge of the collections and can offer advice on how to mine the catalog effectively. You are also welcome to place Special Collections materials on course reserve. |
