Where are the computers?
The majority of the over 150 WindowsXP computers the Library
manages are located on the first floor of the Regenstein and Crerar
Libraries. However, all library locations have computers for use by
the public.
Who can use these computers?
These computers do not require a login and can be used by any
patron of the Library.
What software is installed on the library
computers?
These computers have the following installed: Internet Explorer,
Microsoft Word 2000, Excel 2000, Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer, Adobe
Reader 7.0 SSH Secure Shell, and QuickTime Player.
Which Library computers can I print from?
Any of the computers managed by the Library can be printed from. At
this time, printing is not available from the NSIT
WebStations.
How do I print from the library's computers?
1. Select a printer (B&W or color).
2. Enter a name for your print job & click OK.
3. Go to the nearest network printer to release your print job. If
not printed within 2 hours, the job will disappear from the print
queue.
NOTE: there is a fee for printing.
How do I save files?
You can save files to a floppy disk, a USB drive, or the temporary
folder at C:\Patron. Please note that the contents of this folder
are public and are deleted nightly.
Can I burn a CD?
There are 4 computers on the first floor of the Regenstein Library
that have writeable CD-ROM drives.
Are there scanners available in the Library?
3 scanners are available in the Regenstein Library: one 8 1/2" x
11" (behind the Ask a Librarian desk on the 1st floor) and two 11"
x 17" (Room 420
& Room 370).
Can I listen to CDs or watch DVDs on the
computers?
All the public computers can read CDs. Only 4 computers have DVD
drives. There is also DVD viewing equipment on the third floor of
the Regenstein Library,
room 306.
Can I connect my laptop to the campus
network?
Ethernet and wireless networks are available in most of the
libraries for laptop users. These networks are managed by
Networking Services and Information Technologies (NSIT) and access
is limited to current students, faculty, and staff
.
Can I print from my laptop?
Windows users can print from their laptops after
installing the free software specific to the library they want to
print from:
