The Social Service Administration Library

The Social Service Administration Library - by Sid Ulevicius

The Library is located in the School of Social Service Administration at the south end of the first floor. With holdings at 37,000 pieces, the Library's collections cover all aspects of social welfare and social work, including material on child welfare, public welfare, mental health, and urban policy, as well as information on the aged, psychotherapy and delinquency. In addition to its book and journal holdings, the library has a large collection of microfilms, microfiche and pamphlets by governmental and voluntary agencies.

During its operating hours SSA Library's staff is available to help students locate appropriate materials in the SSA Library and elsewhere in the University library system. Reference help is available, especially from 8:30 to 5:00 on weekdays. Orientation tours for new students are conducted by the librarian each Autumn quarter.

The Library provides reserve materials for courses in the School of Social Service Administration, and houses a placement center with a collection of job postings and reference materials to assist the job seeker.

As a unit of the University of Chicago Library System, SSA Library has the same access policies, circulation procedures, and due dates, notices and fines as other libraries on campus.
