Electronic Books

Look for the "Web Access" entry in the catalog to see if a book is available in electronic format. Some textbooks, like in the example below from MD Consult, require that you logon to their site first and then select the textbook from a list of resources.

Bookstacks

In this example, the first three copies are currently checked out to other borrowers (Charged; may be recalled). c.4 is on the shelf (Not charged). If all copies of an item are checked out you can place a "recall" request for the item - the current borrower will be notified that they have 10 days to return the item. Note: recall request may also be placed on items you have out as well. For more information read "Online Catalog Documentation | Borrower Information, Renewals, and Recall Requests via the Online Catalog."

Reference

Be careful not to confuse "Reserve" with "Reference" -- at a quick glance the two words look similar.

Materials in the Crerar Reference collection locate on the first floor, west of the reference desk by call number. There are two areas to check in the reference. First is a low shelf containing books with red tape on them. The sign on the shelf reads "Quick Reference Collection." If you do not see what you need here, then go to the tall shelves behind the computer terminals (also on the west side of the desk).

Reserve

Be careful not to confuse "Reserve" with "Reference" -- at a quick glance the two words look similar.

Books on reserve locate behind the Circulation/Reserves desk on the first floor, right off of the atrium of the Library. The purpose of Reserve is to make materials in high demand readily available to all patrons. Therefore, each patron can only check out 2 reserve items at any given time, and these items are usually on 2-hour loan. A fine of $1/hour is assessed for late return of reserve material. Read the Crerar Reserves page for more information or if you would like to place materials on reserve for a course.

Dewey Decimal
Dewey materials locate in compact shelving on lower level. If you have problems operating the compact (movable) shelving please ask for help at the Circulation/Reserves desk. If you are unable to find the material you need please ask for help at the Reference/Information desk.

If you have any questions about the resources or services available to the biomedical sciences community please contact Reed Lowrie, Biomedical Reference Librarian or Christa Modschiedler, Biomedical Bibliographer & Reference Librarian. You may also email the Crerar Reference Staff.
