Invasive Species

The internet sites were selected based upon the authority and/or reputation of the issuing body in addition to the quality and organization of the website.

  • Aquatic, Wetland and Invasive Plant Database The database includes citations for more than 60,000 research articles, books, and reports about aquatic plant ecology, physiology, utilization and control. Items in many languages dating back to the 18th century are in this inclusive database.

  • Center for Aquatic and Invasive Plants University of Florida research center. Also provides access to the Aquatic, Wetland and Invasive Plant Information Retrieval System (APIRS).

  • INVADERS database University of Montana. Database of exotic plant names and weed distribution records for five states in the northwestern United States.

  • Invasive Plant Atlas of New England Atlas of invasive plant species for the New England area, with a concentration on the state of Connecticut. Includes images and descriptive data about invasive plants, and a collection database documenting the existence and spread of those species in the New England area.

  • National Invasive Species Information Center (NISIC) A reference gateway to information, organizations, and services about invasive species. Produced by the National Agricultural Library.

  • Nonindigenous Aquatic Species (NAS) United States Geological Survey.

  • World Conservation Union (IUCN):

    • Invasive Species Specialist Group (ISSG) Part of the Species Survival Commission (SSC) of the World Conservation Union (IUCN). Activities focus primarily on invasive species that cause biodiversity loss, with particular attention to those that threaten oceanic islands.
    • The Global Invasive Species Programme (GISP) The GISP mission is to conserve biodiversity and sustain human livelihoods by minimizing the spread and impact of invasive alien species.
    • The Global Invasive Species Database The database focuses on invasive species that threaten biodiversity and covers all taxonomic groups from micro-organisms to animals and plants. Developed by the IUCN/SSC Invasive Species Specialist Group (ISSG) as part of the global initiative on invasive species led by the Global Invasive Species Programme (GISP).
    • Species Survival Commission (SSC) SSC’s major role is to provide information to IUCN on biodiversity conservation, the inherent value of species, their role in ecosystem health and functioning, the provision of ecosystem services, and their support to human livelihoods.
    • 100 of the World's Worst Invasive Alien Species (pdf)
