For non-specialists
For students who aren't familiar with all of the resources available
in biology, here are some good places to start exploring topics.
- These journals have articles that are written for non-specialists. They can be good places to begin research as the articles are aimed at a more general audience than some of the specialty journals.
- Need to do some background reading to help you better understand you topic? See the list of Science Encyclopedias.
- After compiling all your resources for a paper it is important to accurately cite the information gathered. There are a number of style guides for print and electronic resources available at the library. Please check with you professor for what citation style they would prefer you use.
- Science librarians can help you identify and use resources in biology. Ask for help at the reference desk. You may also request a special training session on any topic if you have a minimum of 3-5 students. Individual consultations can also be arranged. For more information see the Science Libraries Instruction site.
