For non-specialists

For students who aren't familiar with all of the resources available in biology, here are some good places to start exploring topics.

  • These journals have articles that are written for non-specialists. They can be good places to begin research as the articles are aimed at a more general audience than some of the specialty journals.
  • Need to do some background reading to help you better understand you topic? See the list of Science Encyclopedias.
  • After compiling all your resources for a paper it is important to accurately cite the information gathered. There are a number of style guides for print and electronic resources available at the library. Please check with you professor for what citation style they would prefer you use.
  • Science librarians can help you identify and use resources in biology. Ask for help at the reference desk. You may also request a special training session on any topic if you have a minimum of 3-5 students. Individual consultations can also be arranged. For more information see the Science Libraries Instruction site.

If you have any questions about the resources or services available to the biomedical sciences community please contact Deb Werner, Biomedical Reference Librarian or Christa Modschiedler, Biomedical Bibliographer & Reference Librarian. You may also email the Crerar Reference Staff.
