This database is the electronic equivalent of the entire
Beilstein Handbuch der Organischen Chemie and all
supplements. Additional records have also been added since the
completion of the last print supplement. Records include not only
physical and chemical data for more than 6 million organic
compounds, but also more than 5 million reactions, spectral
information, and origins of natural products. More than 70
different fields are searchable in the database, including UV, NMR,
IR and mass spectral data, solubility, electrochemical properties,
density, thermodynamic values and much more. This extremely
powerful tool is available to University of Chicago users from
terminals in the Chemistry Library and the Crerar Library. The
software may also be downloaded by authorized users from the
Chemistry Library website (see the URL in this entry). The
interface is a bit challenging to use, so detailed user guides have
been developed and are also available from the Chemistry Library
website. Search advice and assistance is available by contacting

Tables of particular interest are 1) physical constants of
inorganic compounds, 2) physical constants of organic compounds, 3)
physical properties of organometallic compounds, 4) selected
thermodynamic properties, and 5) vapor pressure of inorganic and
organic compounds. This handbook is revised regularly, and contains
the most common compounds. The web version is licensed for the
University of Chicago community and offers very good searching
capabilities. Tables are sometimes removed from various editions,
so it is helpful to look at several editions when searching for
particular properties or data.

Numerical Data and Functional Relationships in Science and

Multi-volume set Springer-Verlag: Berlin,
This series, in conjunction with the 6th edition, represents the
most comprehensive compilation of numerical data available. While
many volumes were published in German, the more recent volumes are
produced entirely in English. A comprehensive subject index is
available in print, as well as a 3 volume substance index. Many
volumes are accompanied by supplementary computer disk or CD-ROMs
and there are now page images of a large number of the print
volumes available from the publisher's website. The set is
comprised of 9 "groups" of volumes, each in a different subject
area. The groups are Units and Fundamental Constants, Elementary
Particles, Nuclei and Atoms (Group I), Molecules and Radicals
(Group II), Condensed Matter (Group III), Physical Chemistry (Group
IV), Geophysics (Group V), Astronomy and Astrophysics (Group VI),
Biophysics (Group VII), and Advanced Materials and Technologies
(Group VIII). The volumes are sometimes internally organized
idiosyncratically, and it may be necessary to consult indexes
within individual volumes, or scan a number of tables to find the
data of interest. All data are accompanied by literature
references.

4th edition. 2 volumes Journal of Physical and Chemical
Reference Data, Monograph 9 (1998) American Chemical
Society
American Institute of Physics: Washington, DC, 1998.
Recommended temperature-dependent values are provided for chemical
thermodynamic properties of inorganic substances and for organic
substances containing only one or two carbon atoms. These tables
cover the thermodynamic properties over a wide temperature range
with single-phase and multiphase tables for the crystal, liquid,
and ideal gas state. The properties tabulated are heat capacity,
enthalpy, entropy, Gibbs energy function, enthalpy of formation,
Gibbs energy of formation, and the logarithm of the equilibrium
constant for formation of each compound from the elements in their
standard reference states. All values are given in SI units and are
for a standard-state pressure of 100 000 Pa (1 bar). Each
tabulation is accompanied by a critical evaluation of the
literature upon which the thermochemical table is based. Literature
references are given. This volume is an update to the Third Edition
which was published in J. Phys. Chem. Ref. Data, Volume 14
Supplement 1 (1985) (QD 511.D75 Crerar Library Reference and

Matheson Gas Data Book. Carl L. Yaws. 7th
edition. McGraw-Hill: New York, 2001.
Contains information on about 150 gases, organized by gas name.
Each gas entry has a table of 45 properties (including, but not
limited to, melting point, boiling point, critical
temperature/pressure/volume, octanol-water partition coefficient,
Henry's Law constant, heat capacity, entropy/enthalpy/free energy
of formation, etc.) Graphs of temperature dependent properties
(e.g., vapor pressure) are also given. Appendices consist of tables
of the data from each entry reformatted and organized by
property.
