Index to Physical, Chemical and Other Property Data.
Arizona State University Libraries.

An excellent online guide to selected print and electronic resources that contain chemical, physical, thermodynamic, mechanical, toxicological, and safety data. Arranged alphabetically by property name. Note that call numbers refer to ASU library locations; check the University of Chicago Library catalog for local holdings. Also included is a "Ten Easy Tips for Finding Property Data" guide.

STN Numeriguide.
STN International.

A data directory and property hierarchy file offered by STN (affiliated with Chemical Abstracts Service). Contains information on all of the numeric properties available in each of the various databases offered by STN (including, but not limited to METADEX, CAS files, SPECINFO, thermochemical data from DECHEMA, and many others). Searches are available for a fee by contacting the Chemistry Librarian.

ThermoDex.
University of Texas Library.

ThermoDex contains records for printed and web-based compilations of thermochemical and thermophysical data for chemical compounds and other substances. Select one or more compound types and link them to one or more property terms, and ThermoDex will return a list of handbooks that might contain this data. Full entries include title, a brief abstract explaining the work's scope and arrangement, the properties included, types of compounds included, as well as publisher and date. Web-based data sets are linked via their URLs. ThermoDex is based primarily on the holdings of the Mallet Chemistry Library at the University of Texas at Austin. Check the Horizon library catalog for availability of these sources at the University of Chicago. Many of the resources included are also described in this guide.

The Search for Data in the Physical and Chemical Sciences.
L.R. Arny. Special Libraries Association: New York, 1984.

An excellent (though dated) short guide to various resources for chemical and physical data. Information about print resources remains pertinent, while information about computerized resources is understandably lacking. Annotations for various sources are quite detailed and include hints for effective use. One of the appendices is an index to selected National Bureau of Standards (now known as National Institute of Standards Technology) data compilations, arranged by physical or chemical property.

Composite Index for CRC Handbooks.
3rd edition. 3 volumes. CRC Press: Boca Raton, 1991.

Indexes 140,000 pages of information from 317 handbook volumes published by CRC Press, including CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics, Handbook of Data on Organic Compounds, and a wide variety of handbooks in pure and applied sciences. The composite index was constructed by merging the indexes from individual titles. Therefore, terminology used to index a particular type of data may vary and care should be used to check synonyms and alternate terms. Also available from the publisher as a searchable CD-ROM.
