The University of Chicago Library
Chicago Jazz Archive | Jazz in Hyde Park
Jazz was played in Hyde Park as early as 1921, but the heyday of Hyde Park Jazz was from the 1940's into the 1970's. Below are some citations to newspaper articles, arranged by venue. Because listeners from Hyde Park also frequented venues in nearby Bronzeville, some of those venues are listed but the citations will be added later. When known, venue addresses and dates of operation are provided.

The two major sources of information for items on this list are the Chicago Defender (CD) and the Chicago Tribune (CT), both of which are available online from Chicago Public Library and at several university libraries. Dates are the date of the article, not the date of performance at the club. This document copyright 2008 University of Chicago Library. Please cite this source and give credit.
