1100 E. 57th Street, between University and Ellis Avenues; the Chicago
Jazz Archive is on the Third Floor.

Get off the Metra Electric Line at the 55-56-57th stop, on the end of the platform closest to 57th Street. Schedule (PDF) Walk west on 57th seven blocks until you come to the Library, which takes up the entire block between University and Ellis on 57th Street.CTA Bus:
From downtown, take the #6 Jackson Park Express to 55th Street, transfer to the #55 Garfield bus and get off at University. Walk one block south; you will see a walkway leading to the east door of the library through the Max Palevsky Residences quadrangle.If you would rather walk along 57th street, get off the #6 Jackson Park Express at 57th and Stony Island Avenue and walk west seven blocks until you reach the Library.
From south of the University, take the #6 Jackson Park Express, #28 Stony Island, or #15 Jeffrey Local bus to the corner of 57th street and Stony Island Avenue; get off and walk seven blocks west to the Library. Or ride to 55th street and transfer to the #55 bus, get off at University and walk south one block.
CTA El Train:
Take the CTA Red Line Train to the Garfield/55th Street station; go upstairs, cross the street, and take the #55 Garfield bus or #X55 Garfield Express east to Ellis Avenue. Get off and walk two blocks south to 57th street, then turn left and walk half a block to the Library entrance.By Car:
There are two basic routes. Street parking can be difficult to find during the academic year. There is a University parking garage at 55th street and Ellis Avenue; the entrance is actually on Ellis. The library entrance is two blocks south on 57th street, just east of Ellis Avenue.This Hyde Park Map is useful, it shows the directions of the many one-way streets.
From Lake Shore Drive:
Exit at 57th Drive. You will come to a stoplight across from the entrance to the Museum of Science and Industry. At the light turn right (north) onto Hyde Park Blvd. At the next light, 55th street, turn left and go west to to Ellis Avenue, turn left on Ellis and immediately left again into the parking garage.From the Dan Ryan Expressway (I90/94):
Exit at Garfield Blvd., travel east on Garfield until it goes around Washington Park, ease to the right. There will be a stoplight at the intersection of Garfield and Cottage Grove Avenue. Continue east on what is now 55th street to Ellis Avenue; turn right and immediately left into the parking garage.
