The Chicago Jazz Archive is a mediated collection of the Regenstein Library, University of Chicago. It is located on the Third Floor, in the Music area.

• The Chicago Jazz Archive is open to users BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.

  After an initial research consultation by phone (773-702-3721) or email, a firm appointment for a specific day and time is scheduled and the main security desk at Entrance Control is notified when to expect the visitor.

  If you are unable to keep your appointment, please call 773-702-3721 to let us know.

  If you are delayed we will make every effort to reschedule your visit for later that same day, but preexisting appointments have priority. Please call to let the Curator know that you will be late, and how late you expect to be.

• All visitors are asked to abide by our Visitor Guidelines before entering the Archive.

• The Archive's recordings are not available for dubbing nor for recreational listening.

• The Archive is not a browsable collection. Users are asked not to remove items from Reading Room shelves and to refrain from entering staff areas.

• Please see our Jazz Reference Guidelines for help in deciding which materials you need to see.

  Then contact the Curator for an appointment. The Curator will:

• Discuss your research with you and determine whether the materials you seek are in fact at the Archive,

• Determine whether there are restrictions on copying and use of the materials you wish to see,

• Locate materials and have them ready for you, or make necessary copies/dubs of fragile items, so you can make the most of your research time at the Archive,

• Confirm there will be space for you to work in our tiny reading room on the day you wish to visit, and

• Confirm that the Curator will be available to assist you on the day you wish to visit. All first-time visits must take place when the Curator is present so she can help identify the collections and materials that best suit your research needs.
