  From the National Center for Education Statistics. Includes universities as well as K-12 schools, both public and private
• Education Resource Organizations Directory (EROD)
  From the U.S. Dept. of Education. Nearly 4,000 organizations and agencies are listed in this directory which is updated at least annually. To be included, orgniazations must offer information and assistance on education-related topics. Many types of organizations are listed including State Higher Education Agencies and State Education Agencies for preK-12 programs and offices such as literacy resource centers, child care licensing offices, education for special populations (such as offenders and homeless), and arts and humanities councils.

• U. S. Network for Education Information (USNEI)
  This is "an interagency and public/private partnership whose mission is to provide official information assistance for anyone seeking information about U.S. education and for U.S. citizens seeking authoritative information about education in other countries." The website provides a wealth of information and links about the education systems of countries worldwide, directories of institutions, study abroad opportunities, and teaching overseas.
• Braintrack University Index
  Huge, searchable international list arranged by country and continent
• Commonwealth of Learning
  Iintergovernmental organization of 54 member countries of the Commonwealth-nations originally linked in the British Empire and sharing English as a common language.
• Educause Directory of Member Organizations
  While most members are U.S. or Canadian institutions, more than 30 additional countries represented. Listings are by name and by location. For the U.S. only they are also listed by Carnegie Classification.
• Education in Latin America
  From the Latin-American Network Information Center (LANIC), University of Texas. It covers all levels of education and also has a section covering language programs.
• General Education Online
  Links to higher education facilities worldwide; is organized geographically by country. Hosted and sponsored by Simple End User Linux with Michael Viron as project manager.
• World Higher Education Database
  From the International Association of Universities (IAU), includes information on more than 180 countries. Three segments of the database are available: one listing institutions, the second describing educational systems, and the third comprising bibliographical references.

• Academic Info bills itself as "your gateway to quality educational resources" and is maintained by Mike Madin. It includes annotated links to resources in academic subject areas as well as a Student Center that includes links to directories of institutions, financial aid information, college sports, student travel and more.
• ACT Inc.--publishers of the American College Test (ACT), the company's website offers resources for college planning and test preparation, plus information about its products for workforce development and assessment of institutional effectiveness.
• College Board--administers the SAT and provides resources for college planning. Offers full-text reports, statistics and other documents for education professionals and researchers (such as College-Bound Seniors, Enrollment Mangement Review, etc).
• College Source Online--from the Career Guidance Foundation, this resource provides the full-text of more than 8,300 college catalogs for 2-year, 4-year, graduate, and professional schools. You can search the database by tuition, location, size of enrollment, affiliation, general programs of study, and other criteria. The catalogs are available in Adobe's PDF format, and the site has a link to download this software. (Access restricted).
• FinAid: The Smart Student Guide to Financial Aid --From Mark Kantrowicz, this site offers thousands of annotated links to information as well as definitions, explanations and advice.
• Gradschools.com--commercial source provides a variety of information, including a searchable index of broad majors
• Kaplan--a subsidiary of the Washington Post, this company offers career and college planning information; services to prepare individuals for taking tests such as the GRE and TOEFL; tutoring programs for elementary and secondary students; and a selection of academic and licensure programs for various professions.
• National Academic Advising Association (NACADA)--the website of this professional association offers directories of resources for both research and practice. NACADA's Technology in Advising Commission has an additional list of Academic Advising Resources on the Internet
• Pathways to College Network and Clearinghouse--this organization's mission is "to focus research-based knowledge and resources on improving college preparation, access, and success for under-served populations, including low-income, underrepresented minority, and first-generation students." It prepares and disseminates resources related to college preparation and retention; policies affecting access and success; effective practices and policies for family involvement and community engagement; and college affordability and financial aid. It offers a reference service and co-sponsors the State Policy Inventory Database Online (SPIDO).
• Peterson's Education Portal--this for-profit publisher produces many directories of schools, universities, study abroad options, and financial aid opportunities. It offers a searchable database of selected information on its website.
• Princeton Review--commercial publisher offering various directories, college planning services, test preparation coaching, and publishes rankings of educational institutions
• Schoolguides.com--commercial source with directories and college planning services. Offers a Graduate School Guide
• Students.gov--A gateway to government information on education, careers, community service and more
• U.S. Dept of Education | Office of Postsecondary Education offers information about college costs, financial aid, accreditation, and more. Among the resources are a Planning for College guide, FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Assistance), and a list of the Federal School Codes.
