Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts
The major index for the study of linguistics. Covers all aspects of
the study of language including phonetics, phonology, morphology,
syntax, and semantics. Also covers various fields of linguistics
including descriptive, historical, comparative, theoretical, and
geographical linguistics.

Education Abstracts
Indexes English-language periodicals and yearbooks published in the
U.S. and elsewhere. Citations are included for publications since
1983, and abstracts from 1994 to the present. Subjects include
administration, teaching methods and curriculum, literacy,
government funding, and more. Covers every age and sector of the
educational community from preschool through college. Provides
citations for every article of at least one column in length taken
from more than 550 sources. Includes citations to book reviews and
selected series and supplements. The database is updated monthly.

ERIC
ERIC is the largest database of materials for education in world.
It contains annotated references to journal articles and to
non-journal documents such as research reports, lesson plans,
curriculum guides, information analyses, conferences presentations,
bibliographies and more. Coverage begins with 1966 and more than
1,000,000 records are included. Learn

- Center for Applied
Linguistics (CAL)
This non-profit organization is composed of scholars and educators.
CAL provides a wide range of services and materials for language
educators, most of them free of charge, ranging from newsletters
and digests to directories of internet resources in a wide array of
language-related topics. Topics of interest include foreign
languages, English as a second or foreign language, bilingualism
and bilingual education, psycholinguistics and sociolinguistics,
theoretical and applied linguistics, intercultural communication
and cultural education, and study abroad and international
exchange. CAL has archived most of the resources previously
available from the ERIC Clearinghouse on Languages and
Linguistics.
- National Clearinghouse for
English Language Acquisition and Language Instruction Educational
Programs (NCELA)
Formerly NCBE, the National Clearinghouse for Bilingual Education,
NCELA collects, analyzes, and disseminates information relating to
the effective education of linguistically and culturally diverse
learners in the U.S. It produces a weekly electronic news bulletin,
Newsline, and a
monthly electronic magazine, Outlook. The Clearinghouse
works with other service providers to help states and local school
districts. NCELA offers a National
Linguistic Assets Database with information about translators
and interpreters as well as the NCELA Bibliographic
Database with more than 20,000 citations and
abstracts.

This site is a redesign and merger of The Human-Languages Page and
the Languages catalog of the WWW Virtual Library. iLoveLanguages
offers an extensive catalog of language-related Internet resources.
The more than 2000 links are individually reviewed and selected for
inclusion. Topics include online language lessons, translating
dictionaries, native literature, translation services, software,
language schools, and more.
- Foreign Language Resource
Centers
The United States Department of Education has awarded grants to a
small number of institutions for the purpose of establishing,
strengthening, and operating national foreign language resource and
training centers to improve the teaching and learning of foreign
languages. Presently there are fourteen Title VI Language Resource
Centers nationwide and this page listed above (maintained at
Michigan State University) provides links to the various programs
and to selected performance data. The University of Chicago
operates the South Asia
Language Resource Center.

Wisconsin, this site includes activities and resources for French,
Japanese and Spanish. Its intent is to provide a guide to the best
online resources designed to help children and young adults learn a
foreign language. The portal's resources are hand selected by
language and linguistics content specialists and cover everything
from games to vocabulary exercises to sites that can provide
context for a language. Also included are materials and resources
for teachers who are interested in integrating web resources into
their classroom curriculum.

Language Guides
From the Yamada Language Center at the University of Oregon, this
site includes links to resources on more than 100 languages and an
archive of fonts for about 40 languages.

This mega-site and discussion forum is operated out of Wayne State
University and Eastern Michigan University. It covers a wide range
of topics of interest to academics and professionals. It includes
conference and job announcements, book reviews, syllabi,
directories, bibliographies, journal lists and more. The Ask A Linguist feature
allows interested parties to submit questions to a panel of
linguists and previous questions and answers are archived.
- Linguistic Data
Consortium
Hosted at the University of Pennsylvania, this is an open
consortium of universities, companies and government research
laboratories. It creates, collects, distributes and sells speech
and text databases, lexicons, and other resources for research and
development purposes. A corpus catalog is
available.
- Linguistics: A
Reference Bibliography
From Cornell University Library, the bibliography includes
citations to print, electronic and web-based resources.
- Linguistics Society of
America
A wide array of useful information is here, ranging from
directories of publishers, organizations, linguistics programs, and
journals to specific documents such as guidelines for using
sign-language interpreters, definitions of the fields of
linguistics, and FAQs on general topics such as why people have
accents.

Research Unit (LPRU), Arizona State University, Education
Policy Studies Laboratory
LPRU, directed by Dr. Terrence Wiley, promotes research and policy
analysis on the challenges and opportunities posed by national and
global multilingualism. It sponsors a journal and the website
includes pertinent demographic data, research reports,
bibliographies, lists of legal cases, and more.
- Consortium for
Language Policy and Planning
The Consortium is an unincorporated association of a number of
research universities, advocacy bodies, and other scholars
interested in issues of language policy and planning. The website
includes information on membership and projects, bibliographies,
and lists of internet resources. Also available is a listserv and
its archive.
