State Agencies and Regional Organizations
- Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO)
This is a nonprofit membership organization of the chief officials in each State and territory responsible for K-12 education. The website provides information about CCSSO-sponsored projects and publications are freely available in full-text.
- Education Commission of the States (ECS)
ECS is an interstate compact created in 1965 to improve public education at all levels (early learning through post-secondary) by facilitating the exchange of information, ideas and experiences among state policymakers and education leaders. It maintains a policy database that offers "What States are Doing" on a wide array of issues ranging from No Child Left Behind to Leadership in Post-Secondary Education. Additional resources are offered for some of the "issues" ranging from lists of websites to full-text documents. ECS has an active publishing program of reports and periodicals, some of which are available at no charge on the website. ECS collaborates with government agencies, foundations, and universities in the sponsorship of programs that focus on research and policy formation. - Education Resource Organizations
Directory (EROD)
From the U.S. Dept of Education, EROD lists a wide array of organizations that provide services. The Type of Organization lists include numerous State offices such as State Education Agencies, State Higher Education Agencies, and many types of regional assistance centers. - National Governors Association (NGA)
NGA offers news and legislative updates on matters of interest to the Governors, including a wide variety of educational topics. It maintains a Center for Best Practices where assorted informational resources and policy guidance are available on key issues such as Coordinated School Health, Early Childhood, Higher Education, No Child Left Behind Act, Teacher Quality, and Technology in Education. - State Policy Issues
Database Online (SPIDO)
SPIDO is a joint project between the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) and the Pathways to College Network. The database is designed to provide state and national policymakers, education leaders, practitioners and education consumers with an inventory of state-level policies and resources in key policy domains related to student achievement, access and success in higher education. - Stateline.org: Your Source for State

Stateline.org was founded in order to help journalists, policy makers and engaged citizens become better informed about innovative public policies. Funded entirely by The Pew Charitable Trusts as a public service, Stateline.org has published online every weekday except holidays since Jan. 25, 1999. Staff follow the development of major issues in various states and provide news reports, analyses, and key summary statistics. Education is one of the major issues that is covered in these pages.
