What's New: Recent Literary Awards
Nobel Prize in Literature
The 2007 Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to Doris Lessing. Her most recent novel is The Cleft (London: HarperCollins, 2007; Regenstein Stacks PR6023.E833C54 2007).
Granta has announced its Best of the Young American Novelists 2007. Granta 97 is devoted to their new work.

The Class of 2000 has established a book fund for the purchase of popular fiction and media for Regenstein. The gift is intented to provide students with mysteries, sicience fiction, other contemporary fiction, and media that would not ordinarily be purchased by the Library.

Selections from the New York Times Book Review
Each June and December the New York Times Book Review features notable books published in that year. The following bibliographies, beginning with 1990, list titles owned by the University of Chicago Library. The 2005 New York Times Notable Books list appears in the December 4, 2005 issue of the Book Review. - Granta's Best
In 1983 the editors of Granta (AP2.G73) named twenty writers under 40 as best of the young British novelists. A decade later they selected another twenty writers. The third was published in 2003. In 1996 a panel of judges, including Robert Stone, Anne Tyler, Tobias Wolff, and Ian Jack, named twenty American writers as best of their generation. In April of this year the second list of the best of the young American novelists was announced. On each occasion, an issue of Granta was devoted to excerpts from their work. The following lists include a selection of titles by these authors held by the Library.
