Print Journals

All print journals may be found the Library's online catalog, Horizon. Geophysical Sciences journals are generally classified with the physical sciences collections; exceptions that shelve with biomedical titles fall mainly the areas of paleontology, plant and animal evolution and palynology.

• Crerar Library journals
  • Unbound journals:
    The unbound journals in the Crerar Library are located in two sections on the first floor in the eastern half of the reference area. One section is designated "biomedical sciences" and the other section is desingated "physical sciences". Journals shelve in alphabetical order by title within either section. A note in the Horizon catalog record will indicate the section where the title is shelved.
  • Bound journals:
    Biomedical bound journals shelve on the second floor of the Crerar Library in alphabetical order by title. Physical sciences journals shelve on the third floor by call number.
    
    
  • Chinese Language Journals
    There is a collection of chinese language science periodicals that is not yet in the online catalog. These titles include a number of titles that may be of interest to geophysical sciences researches. Click here for more information on these titles.

   

• Can't find the journal you want?
  • Recheck the catalog:
    Some journals have very similar names, so be sure you're looking at the right title. For assistance in unraveling unfamiliar citations, decoding journal title abbreviations or verifying volume and page number information, please check with Crerar Library reference staff. Also, materials may be at the bindery, out for page replacements, or otherwise unavailable, so look at the item record for the specific piece (or ask a staff member to check for you).
  • Check the copier areas:
    Often if a single volume is not on the shelf, someone else may have taken it to be copied. Check in the copy rooms on the appropriate floor in Crerar (there are two rooms on each floor 1, 2 and 3)
  • Check the reshelving/sorting areas:
    Check the carts near the top of the stairwells, or ask at the Circulation Counter about looking in the sorting or pre-shelving areas.
  • Still can't locate the journal you need?
    Check with Crerar Library reference staff. We can suggest alternatives, including interlibrary loan.
