How to Cite a Reference


RefWorks and EndNote are bibliographic management tools that serve as:

~Databases that stores & manages bibliographic references
~Bibliography makers that builds lists of cited works automatically
~A simple way to search online bibliographic databases and retrieve references

After compiling all the resources for your paper, it is important to accurately cite the information. There are a number of style guides for print and electronic resources available at the library. Please check with you professor for the citation style they would prefer you use. Resources to help you cite your references are listed below.

 
Online Citation Guides and Resources

  • Sources: Their Use and Acknowledgement. Committee on Sources. Trustees of Dartmouth College. Excellent resource: Provides examples for APA, MLA, Science, and Note Style.
  • APA's Publication Manual: Electronic References. Brief guide to citing electronic media
  • The Columbia Guide to Online Style Presents a guide to locating, translating, and using the elements of citation for both a humanities style (i.e., MLA and Chicago) and a scientific style (APA and CBE) for electronically-accessed sources.
