Negative inscribed: "Interieur de la Moscee Amrou." Description in pencil on reverse: "View of the interior of the Mosque of Amer at Old Cairo, the oldest in Egypt. It was built originally in the seventh century, but was renewed to a large extent in the fifteenth. The interior contains 230 columns, many of which have now fallen in the general decay of the building. In one corner is a spring which the Mohemmedans believe communicates with the holy well of Zem Zem at Mecca." Signed: "Joseph Moore, Jr., Grand New Hotel, Cairo, Dec. 31, 1877."
