Includes some 130 nationalities. The majority of the more than 2,300 articles deal with individual authors. Also included are articles on most world literatures "with claim to a substantial productivity within the century," as well as major literary movements. Author entries provide vital statistics, a substantial critical assessment of the author's work, and a selective primary and secondary bibliography. set that covers the complete history of Western literary criticism (volume
2, the Middle Ages, and volume 6, Realism and Naturalism, are still
forthcoming). Each volume is edited by a set of editors who are specialists
in the period covered. Entries are generally organized by time periods
and genre, though organization and presentation vary from volume to
volume, and consitst of signed, lengthy articles, written by scholars
in the field. All volumes comprise an extensive and helpful bibliography

basic definitions as currently used. Entries often indicate origin and
cite examples. Encyclopedia of American Literature. New York: Continuum, 1999. (PS21 .E53 1999 RR1, RR3, Harper) Compiled by two English professors who have edited other literary reference works, this encyclopedia of American literature, Colonial times to the present, consists of one- to six-page essays of two types: critical essays on authors, and 70 assorted topical essays on "genre, period, ethnicity and discipline"--e.g., "The Detective Story," "Film and Literature," "The Confidence Man." The biographical essays are primarily critical reviews of works but include brief biographical information as well. All essays are signed and contain cross-references and brief bibliographies. Short on media theory and "cultural" approaches and fail to reference other new entries on cultural and film criticism, queer and postcolonial theory, but unique in scope and a good start for research. Updated twice a year. Contemporary Women's Issues (1992-) Indexes and provides some full text for literature focusing on women's issues from around the world. Indexes books, journals, newsletters, research reports from non-profit groups, government and international agencies, and fact sheets. Updated every two weeks. International FilmArchive Database (1972-) The FIAF International FilmArchive Database contains several databases: the International Index to Film Periodicals, the International Index to Television Periodicals, the List of Periodicals Indexed, the Treasures from the Film Archives, the Bibliography of FIAF Members Publications and the International Directory of Film and TV Documentation Collections. The main database, International Index to Film Periodicals, contains almost 230,000 article references from more than 300 periodicals on films, personalities, prizes and awards, and more. More useful, however, is the extensive list of categories, including guides, journals, e-texts, bibliographies, associations, dictionaries and reference resources, and more. The Internet Public Library Online Literary Criticism Collection "The Online Literary Criticism Collection primarily seeks to collect
evaluative or explanatory writings about works of literature." Allows
