Borrowing Dissertations
The Library does not regularly purchase dissertations from other institutions. US dissertations published after 1997 and some published earlier are available electronically via ProQuest Dissertations and Theses. Dissertations prior to 1997 that are not available electronically may be requested through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Canadian dissertations are available from the National Library of Canada. Foreign dissertations may be borrowed via ILL from the Center for Research Libraries or consulted on location at 6050 S. Kenwood Avenue. On-site access to material at the Center must be scheduled in advance. The Center receives on deposit theses from a number of foreign universities and will order on request titles that are not already held. The Center's Guide to Foreign Dissertations provides an overview over holdings. Individual dissertations may be searched in CRL's catalog or WorldCat, but since many are still uncataloged, contact CRL directly to verify holdings; dissertations not held by CRL can be requested through its Demand Purchase Program.
