bibliographic and full text databases

grove music online : This landmark reference work includes articles on classical western music, world, jazz, popular and 20th century music.

garland encyclopedia of world music online : This source reproduces the full text of all 10 volumes of the print edition of the Garland Encyclopedia of World Music. Over the course of the next six months, all recordings that accompany the print edition will also be available as audio files on the site.

iimp-full text : This source abstracts articles from more than 400 international music periodicals and includes the contents from more than 80 full-text titles. There is complete retrospective indexing coverage for 185 periodicals.

music index : This database indexes articles from more than 690 international music periodicals from 1979 to the present. Classical and popular music are well-represented as are book reviews, music reviews and obituaries.

rilm abstracts : The abstracts provided cover all genres of music literature including articles, books, bibliographies, catalogues, conference proceedings, doctoral dissertations, festschriften and discographies.

rism : The Series A/II database contains bibliographic records for music manuscripts written after 1600 and before 1850. Graphical images of the music incipits and the location of the holding libraries are provided.

ripm : This database indexes articles about music and musical life from specialized music journals, newspapers, literary periodicals, theatrical journals and magzines from 1800 to 1950.

classical music library : This database consists of more than 10,000 streamed audio tracks of classical music from Arabesque, CRD, Hyperion, Newport, Vox and other labels. There are also 650 composer biographies and interactive learning links included.

naxos music library : This database offers over 75,000 streamed audio tracks from the Naxos, Marco Polo and Da Capo catalogues. Detailed composer and recording information also included.

 

index to printed music: collections & series : This work indexes individual pieces of music printed in standard scholarly editions: complete works (Gesamtausgaben); monuments (Denkmäler); and anthologies.

dance on disc : This is a CD-Rom library catalog located in RR3 based on the holdings of NYPL, the world's leading repository for materials on dance. The Dance Division collects materials on all aspects of dance, all countries and cultures and in all media.

doctoral dissertations in musicology : This database contains over 10,800 records for completed dissertations and new dissertation topics. Coverage is primarily in the fields of musicology, music theory and ethnomusicology.

thesaurus musicarum latinarum : This is a database of the texts of Latin music theory written during the Middle Ages and Renaissance. It allows user to retrieve both published material and the readings that appear in the source material.

saggi musicali italiani : This database endeavors to capture texts on music theory and aesthetics. It focuses on the major treatises written in Italian and will include printed materials from the Renaissance to the present.

texts on music in english from the medieval and early modern eras : This electronic database focuses on the texts of major treatises written in English on music theory and aesthetics. It will comprise relevant manuscripts and printed materials written in English from the Middle Ages through the 17th century.

traités français sur la musique: This is an evolving full-text database of the major treatises written in French but also incorporates other texts involving music. It will compise all relevant manuscript and printed materials from the Middle Ages through the 19th century.

e-journals : Listing of music journals available on-line through University of Chicago subscriptions. Access to most full-text articles limited to the UofC community.
