Music | the rose k. platzman memorial collection

specialized music collections

The Rose K. Platzman Memorial Collection comprises first and early editions of music by late-classical and early-romantic composers. Highlights include first editions of Beethoven’s “Appassionata” and “Hammerklavier” Sonatas, Schubert’s Die Schöne Müllerin, Die Winterreise, and Schwanengesang, and Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The emphasis, however, has been on the music of Frédéric Chopin. These scores have been donated to the Library in memory of Rose K. Platzman (1892-1959), a piano teacher who studied in Leipzig in 1911-12 with Robert Teichmüller. All of the materials in this collection are housed in the Special Collections Research Center on the first floor of Regenstein Library.
