Searchable digital facsimile images of both full pages and clipped articles for hundreds of 19th century US newspapers. For each issue, the newspaper is captured from cover-to-cover, providing access to every article, advertisement and illustration.
- America's Historical Newspapers, 1690-1922

Allows users to search more than 1,000 US historical newspapers published between 1690 and 1922, including titles from all 50 states. Created by Readex through partnerships with the American Antiquarian Society, Library of Congress, Wisconsin Historical Society and others. Online version of the microfilm set Early American Newspapers, Series 1-3.

Formed by the merger of Dow Jones Interactive and Reuters. Contains nearly 8,000 sources from 118 countries and 22 languages. Includes newswires, newspapers, magazines, tv and radio transcripts. Strong business focus. Tips: Choose "Search" or "News" pages. To identify a specific publication be sure "Search" is selected, then select "Source", then use "Find a Source" and/or "Select Source Category."
- LexisNexis Academic

Includes full-text articles from various categories (general news, today's news, u.s. news, world news, wires, transcripts, arts & sports, campus, non-English language). Tips: Choose either the "News" or the "Quick Info" Academic search form. Select "Sources" from the tool bar to find and then search a specific title--or select "Guided News Search" rather than "Quick News Search."
- Newspaper Digitization Projects

From the International Coalition on Newspapers, a guide to newspaper digitization projects, organized by state. Some of the projects provide historic coverage of smaller newspapers that are not included in major newspaper databases. Please Note: Many of the sources listed as subscription services ($) may be available from the University of Chicago Library. Ask a Librarian for more information.
- ProQuest Historical Newspapers

Complete, searchable full text coverage (including ads) for several major United States newspapers. Tip: Can be searched individually, or you can select specific titles. Go to "Select Multiple Databases" and then select the titles you would like to search together.
- ProQuest Newsstand

Indexes over 500 titles and includes full-text articles for most. To identify a specific publication, choose "Publication Search" or "View Titles."

To limit your search, use the Advanced Keyword search option. Selecting a subject search for "newspapers", plus other relevant keywords, may help focus your search. A language limit is also available.

The Library's new search interface provides facets which can focus your search, such as "place of publication," "time period," and "genre".
