Use these resources to find books, articles (in journals), essays (in books), book reviews, and dissertations in philosophy.
Database Finder : The Library subscribes to many different types of electronic resources, from those that provide indexes of journal articles to those that aggregate full-text content from a variety of different publishers. The Database Finder provides alphabetical and subject-based lists of these resources, including descriptive and coverage information. To browse titles in philosophy, follow the link above OR go to Database Finder and click on the "subject browse" tab. Scroll through the subjects in the left window and select "philosophy"; narrow your search by subcategory or leave the default of "ALL"; then click "go."
Library Catalog : To find titles and locations of books, journals, and other resources at the U of C Library, search the library catalog by author, title, subject, etc.
"Find It" Button : Use this button which appears in the library catalog and in most of the indexes listed below to find the resource within the University of Chicago Library, to request an interlibrary loan, or to export the record into RefWorks. If the Library subscribes to a service which provides electronic access to a resource, the "Find It" button will direct you there.
RefWorks : Refworks is a web-based biliographic tool which lets you save and use citations, automatically formating them in a variety of different citation styles for use in bilbiographies and footnotes. The Library subscribes to Refworks and provides accounts (at no charge) to all University faculty, students, and staff.

Finding Books:
- WorldCat : A worldwide union catalog created and maintained collectively by more than 9,000 member institutions. With millions of online records built from the bibliographic and ownership information of contributing libraries, it is the largest and most comprehensive database of its kind.

- Books in Print : The Books In Print database has more than 4 million records, and is updated weekly. Records describe in-print, out-of-print, and forthcoming books, audios and videos from more than 44,000 North American publishers and U.S. distributors and wholesalers.

Finding Articles and Essays:
- Philosopher's Index : Contains citations and abstracts (1940-) covering scholarly research in the field of philosophy. Covers all major articles from anthologies and books in English, Spanish, German, Italian, and French as well as 480 journals from 38 countries.

- Academic Search Premier : A scholarly, full text database designed for academic institutions. The database includes full text for 1800 publications as well as images, for nearly every academic field of study.

- L'Année philologique : Indexes all aspects of classical studies, including authors and texts, literature, linguistics, archaeology, epigraphy and numismatics, history, philosophy, science, and technology.

- Index to Jewish Periodicals : "This database provides a comprehensive guide to English-language articles, book reviews, and feature stories in more than 160 journals devoted to Jewish affairs. Index to Jewish Periodicals is intended for students of Jewish thought and others interested in contemporary Jewish and Middle Eastern affairs. Journal coverage dates back as far as 1988.."

- Arts & Humanities Citation Index, Web of Science : Part of the Web of Science, which also includes the Social Sciences and Science Citation Indexes. Allows searching by cited author as well as author, title, and keyword.

PIO, Periodicals Index Online : Indexes the contents of thousands of periodicals in the humanities and social sciences from 1770 to 1995, including many European titles. Includes links to some full-text articles. Dates of full-text coverage vary by title.

Finding Book Reviews
Finding Dissertations
The University of Chicago has circulating copies of most University of Chicago doctoral dissertations and masters' theses. Users with current University of Chicago borrowing privileges may borrow them. Records for these items are included in the Library Catalog. In Regenstein Library, dissertations and theses are usually shelved in the A-Level Reading Room. In other libraries, they are shelved in the bookstacks.
- ProQuest Dissertations and Theses : Includes citations for materials from the first U.S. dissertation (1861) to those accepted as recently as last semester. Starting in 1997 full-text is often available. If full-text is not available, information about ordering the document is provided.

- Center for Research Libraries, Doctoral Dissertations Collection: Located in Hyde Park, CRL's international doctoral dissertations collection provides comprehensive access to doctoral dissertations submitted to institutions outside the United States and Canada, regardless of format, subject and location (free access to catalog, but membership needed to request items). U of C faculty, students, and staff may request items via interlibrary loan.

- ATLA Religion Database : (1949-) The most important index for religious and theological studies. It indexes more than 700 journals relating to religion, some of which contain links to the full-text of the articles. It also indexes essays in books, including Festschriften; and book reviews. Compiled by the American Theological Library Association, this resource is intended to support the study and research of faculty and students studying religion.

- International Medieval Bibliography : "The IMB database comprises records deriving from articles published in periodicals (journals) and in miscellany volumes (conference proceedings, collected essays, Festschriften and exhibition catalogues) published world-wide.
