Exporting citations from JSTOR
Recent changs in the JSTOR interface have complicated the process of exporting your citations to EndNote. You must create a personal account with JSTOR before you can export multiple citations. This is a onetime process but unless you a personal account, you can only export one citation at a time. The JSTOR also causes problems with diacritics. These do not export correctly, but we have developed alternative methods for importing these into your EndNote library.
Exporting Citations
Single Citation- Perform your search
- Click "export this citation"
- Select EndNote
- Select Open and the Library to which you wish to export the citation.
- Perform your search
- Mark the records you want to export.
- Click save citations
- Select "Saved Citations" at the upper right of your screen
- Select the citations you wish to export and select EndNote
- N.B. Your citations will be saved in your MyJSTOR account until you actively delete them
Citations with diacritic characters
Direct export to EndNote currently does not render diacritics properly. Here are two methods for working around this problem
- Method 1
-
- Follow the steps above for exporting a citation
- Select email citation rather than export
- Keep the default format, which is citation manager
- Check the box marked "Include citations as attachment." Submit the email request.
We have noticed a lag from the time when we submit our email request to when the message arrives. - Save the attachment from your email as a text file
- Import the text file in EndNote.
We have written an updated import filter, which you can download here Save this in your EndNote filters directory. On a PC this is usually C:\Program Files\EndNote N\Filters, where N is the version number of EndNote. - Be sure to select Text-translation: Unicode UTF-8
- Method 2
- This method requires you to have a RefWorks account
- Follow the steps above for exporting a citation
- Select "export to RefWorks"
Your citations will be in your Last Imported folder - Select Export in RefWorks.
You can select to export any references you like but we suggest using the Last Imported folder and importing in batches. - Select Export Format: "Bibliographic Software (EndNote,Reference Manager,ProCite)"
- Save the exported citations as a text file
- Import the citations to EndNote. Use the Reference Manager(RIS) filter
Your diacritic characters should display properly
- Last Resort
- Export your citations to EndNote. Copy and paste the correct text from the JSTOR citation to your EndNote citation
