Updating Connection Files and Import Filters

If you are using an older version of EndNote (anything before Version 9), you may need to update some of the import filters or connection files that come installed with EndNote. As many databases alter their search interfaces over time, these small changes may affect how the pre-installed files and filters work with the database you are searching.

To find the most recent connection files or import filters for databases:

  1. Go to the EndNote web site at www.endnote.com.
  2. Select "Support and Services"
  3. Under "Downloads", select "More" after "Connection Files" or "Import Filters"
  4. Select the file or filter you need and click on "FTP" to save or download the file.
    • Be sure to download the correct filters or connection files for the platform you are using (Mac or PC).
  5. Save your connection file or import filter to the correct folder.
    • Connection files should be saved in the "Connections" folder (usually C:\Program Files\Endnote\Connections).
    • Import filters should be saved in the "Filters" foder (usually C:\Program Files\EndNote\Filters).

In some cases, the import filters and connection files installed by EndNote or distributed on their site do not work correctly with Library databases. Where possible, the Library has posted customized import filters or connection files for the Library Catalog or other Library databases.
