Enhancing Your Citations

Enhancing Your Citations

RefWorks has several features that can be used to help you organize your research by enhancing specific records you have imported into your database.

Editing Your Records

You may find that the references that you have imported into your RefWorks account may be incomplete, or that some of the data has to be "cleaned up" in some way. To make these changes, select the "Edit" link in the record. Be sure to save your record after you have finished entering your changes.

RefWorks User Fields

RefWorks provides fifteen user defined fields in each record which you can use to enter keywords, annotations, notes, or other information that may be helpful to your research. These fields can be assigned custom names that display when adding a new reference, editing a new reference, in the output style editor and in the Advanced Search options. To define these names, log into RefWorks and select Tools/Customize. User fields can be especially helpful for creating annotated bibliographies by editing your output style.

Attachments

RefWorks will allow you to attach a file to a specific reference. You are limited to 100MB of attachment space. However, before you attach a full-text version of your documents, we recommend that you click on Find It! to see if the document is available online.
