RefWorks | Using RefShare

What is RefShare?

RefShare is a feature which enables you to open your RefWorks folders to other users for instruction or collaboration. RefShare is not limited to RefWorks account holders, nor does it require any additional plug-ins. Anyone can share a folder and provide their collegues or classmates access to their citations.

RefShare not only allows users to view the contents of a folder, but they can also export specific records or create bibliographies in a specific citation style. University of Chicago users will be able to access full-text or the catalog record for the item using the Find It! service. However, users of your shared file will only be able to access what you include in the folder, not add additional references on their own.

Setting Up RefShare

RefShare is very easy to use. To begin:

1. Go to Tools and select "Share References" You will see a list of your folders.

2. Click on "Share Folder" on the folder of your choice to set up RefShare.

3. RefWorks will then display your various options for RefShare. You can set a variety of limits on how people can use your shared folder.
