What is Gargoyle Express?
Gargoyle Express provides, for a fee, photocopies from books and journals in the general collections of the University of Chicago Library. The service is available exclusively to University of Chicago faculty, students, and staff who hold valid library privileges. This service is not available to Alumni without valid library privileges.
It is an ideal resource for patrons who are located off-campus or who wish to avoid laborious searching and photocopying in the campus libraries. The staff of Gargoyle Express will take your article orders, find the specified books and journals, and deliver them electronically in PDF format.
Fees and Payment Options
Costs:
* $3.50/item (filled within 3-4 working days)
* Additional charge: the above fees cover an article up to 25 pages; additional
pages are charged at $0.10/page.
Paying for Orders: Users of Gargoyle Express are invoiced monthly. There are two payment options:
* University
of Chicago interdepartmental order (Form 62)
* Check or money order in US funds

Problems
If the item is not owned, charged out, or cannot be found as cited, the requester
will be notified via email.
Copyright
Gargoyle Express will fill requests for single copies of one article or a small part of a copyrighted work with the understanding that the requester accepts full responsibility for compliance with the copyright law of the United States (Title 17, U. S. Code). This law governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions of "fair use" specified in the law, libraries are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction provided that the copy is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research."The Library is obligated to refuse a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment would involve violation of copyright law.
