Searching the Library Catalog
To determine whether the University of Chicago Library has a particular item, you will need to search the Library Catalog. The Library Catalog indicates whether the Library owns a particular book, journal, newspaper, DVD, etc. includes detailed information about location and status of an item--indicating which library an item can be found in, the building location of the item (e.g., stacks, reserve, storage), call number, and availability.
Catalog Search Box
The Library Web site provides a search option for the Library Catalog on the top of each page. The search box is a good place to start if you know the author or title of a book, or if you want quick access to the Library Catalog.

The default search for the Library Catalog search box is an "Anywhere" keyword search. You can also define the fields which the catalog searches (such as subject, title, author, etc.) to narrow your search. Additional search options, such as browsing, are available on the Library Catalog's main interface. For many research needs, using the other search options may be helpful in retrieving better results.
