How Do I Find...? | Journals, Magazines, and Newspapers

How do I search the Library Catalog for journals, magazines, or newspapers?

The Library Catalog provides an easy way to determine if the Library has a particular journal, magazine, or newspaper in its collection. The Library Catalog not only provides information about our print and microform holdings, but also includes links to online issues of publications (when available).

Entering Your Search Terms

When you know the exact title of the journal or periodical you are looking for, the best way to locate the item is by using a "Begins With" Journal search. Just enter the name of the journal, newspaper or magazine you are looking for, leaving out any initial article such as "A," "An," or "The".

Journal Search in the Library Catalog

If you don't know the exact title of the publication, use the Journal Keyword search option . This search is also helpful if you are looking for a publication using non-roman characters.

Understanding the Library Catalog Record

Bibliographic details about the publication (such as title, author, place of publication, subject headings, etc.) are included at the top of the record. If an online version, pdf version of the publication is available, links will be included in this part of the record. Additional full-text options, if available, can be located by clicking on Find It! in the holdings information box on the left of your screen.

Bibliographic Information

Holdings

At the bottom of the record, you'll find the Library's holdings for this publication..

Journal Holdings

Selecting "Show Circulation Status" will display the availability of specific bound volumes. Some publications, however, do not offer this feature. So always double-check the "Library Has" summary for the Library's actual holdings.

Detailed Holdings

Most bound journals can be checked out of the Library. But copies in the reference areas on each floor do not circulate, along with any volume labeled "Building Use Only".
