What's New@the Library

News & Announcements

  • The University of Chicago Library is pleased to be a partner in the Kuali Open Library Environment (OLE) project to develop software specifically for the complex business management and workflow operations of academic and research libraries.  As a participant in the OLE design phase, it will be gratifying to see the project move forward under the Kuali governance structure, pending approval of a grant proposal to the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. When completed, the Kuali OLE architecture will provide a new technical infrastructure in support of library operations, and will allow us to better integrate with other campus and external operations and to better collaborate with peer institutions using state-of-the-art standards-based community source software. For more information, see the Kuali OLE Web site
  • College Librarians at the Commons provide a new service at the Harper Memorial Library Commons.
  • New Copiers also scan and print.
  • Any faculty, student or staff member now has the option to log into My Account on the Library Catalog using his or her CNetID/password.  Barcode/PIN logins remain valid for any current user, as well as for those users ineligible for a CNetID.

  • Library workstations have been upgraded to Microsoft Office 2007

  • 50 USITE computers have been relocated to Crerar’s 1st floor.

  • The Recordings Collection has new hours, opening at noon each day and closing at 8 p.m. Su-Th & 4 p.m. F-Sa.

  • To promote environmental sustainability and reduce expenses, the University of Chicago Library will no longer print paper due date slips for quarterly or indefinite loans as of March 30. In addition to conserving resources by reducing use of paper, ink, and equipment, this change will save users and Library staff time by simplifying the checkout process. Users will continue to receive printed due date slips for reserve items and any other short term loans, making such items easier for users to identify. As in the past, users will be able to check the due dates and times for all items they have checked out, and to renew quarterly loan items as defined in Library policies, by logging in to My Library Account on the Library's My Accounts page.
