Retrieving Documents and Limiting a Search:
To retrieve a document, enter Candide in the Title
Field (leave the Search Texts for: field blank). Click on the title to go to
the digital table of contents. Links to chapters are disabled because
of copyright restrictions. You may, however, search for words in
particular chapters. To limit a search, leave Candide
in the Title Field and enter jardin in the Search Texts for: field.
Limiting a Search by Multiple Fields:
To search the earlier works of Zola enter Zola
in the Author Field and a date range in the Date Field:
1867-1875. Enter paysan in the Search Field.
Accented Characters:
Enter the date range 1700-1750. Enter privilEgE
in the Search Field. Select KWIC report display. Note the various
accented forms of the word.
Phrase Search:
Search phrase: certitude morale
Phrase with Boolean OR:
Search the following: certitude morale|infaillible|objective
Proximity Same Sentence or Paragraph:
First search the phrase: certitude scient.*
Now search the following: certitude scient.* in the Same Sentence
Now do the same with Proximity - Same Paragraph. Make sure you have
the Concordance Report format turned on. And finally the same
search with Proximity - Within 3 words.
Wildcard Searching
For simple truncation, search immort.* with KWIC Report
turned on.
Search for infini[zs] to find alternate spellings or try
reco[gn]nu. These can also be found by entering
reco.nu. Try the following as well: contra.?t social. To
look only for proper nouns enter: #roche
