As part of the Dictionnaire de l'Académie Française Database Project directed by R. Wooldridge & I. Leroy-Turcan, the ARTFL Project, University of Chicago, has collaborated to perform data capture, required editing, and development of a search engine for several editions of the Dictionnaire de l'Académie française.

Five editions of the Dictionnaire de l'Académie française are currently available:

  • The 1st Edition, 1694
  • The 4th Edition, 1762
  • The 5th Edition, 1798
  • The 6th Edition, 1835
  • The 8th Edition, 1932-1935
  • We invite all interested individuals to use these dictionaries and welcome commentary and questions. Users should be advised that all formating and identification of articles has been carried out automatically. This may result in some errors. Also, please read the notices concerning the operation of these electronic dictionaries, including the peculiar organizational structures of the 1st edition and the handling of accents. Currently, the search engine allows users to conduct both simple headword searches and full-text searches.
