This resource is a keyword index. Please note: the texts found here have been copied without editorial revision: spellings reflect the customs of the period, and names contain the wide variety of spellings and forms which occurs when information is passed orally and by handwritten copy. Therefore, the use of this index must anticipate variations of spelling having many different causes. It is recommended that queries be construed with a minimal number of characters, so as to minimize the need to match precisely the spellings in the source; alternative queries, the wild card character *, and the boolean operator OR are often necessary; and research of the personal names of printmakers and their colleagues often requires patience for the discovery of homonymous variants and spellings caused by handwriting – e.g. the name of the artist "Jazet" sometimes appears as "Jazel." The accuracy of the transcription of texts may be verified by consulting the sources, themselves; the pages of the Bibliographie de la France may be examined in the project Gallica.
